SP 9500 in Roseville

On an unrecorded date in April 1975, Southern Pacific (SP) 9500 was on the east end of the yard in Roseville, CA.
SP 9500 was an EMD SD45X, SP Class EF642-1. It was built in 1970 builders number 35741. It was retired in 1984 and scrapped.

California Pacific (CalP) 3401, an HO model of an ALCo C628, at Klamath Junction on the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. This photo was taken today, Monday, November 24, 2025. This California Pacific is a fictitious railroad. My own private roadname. The model was painted 40+ years ago.

SD45Xs working on the TCSME

Two HO scale Southern Pacific (SP) SD45Xs working the East Pleasanton Rock Job at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA, on Friday, November 28, 2025. These are Scale Trains Models.
The real SP 9504 was an EMD SD45X, SP Class EF642-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1971 to SP specifications as EMD 4202, builders number 36807. It was sold to SP in 1972 becoming SP 9504. It was retired in 1984 and scrapped.

SP Portland 1937

The notes with the collection say this is Portland, OR, on Friday, August 6, 1937. Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Darrough Collection. Since negatives were extensively traded it's possible Bill was not the photographer. Photos from this collection have been shared with permission from Jack Darrough, obtained before he died.
Reportedly: SP 4203 was built in 1911 by Baldwin as a Mallet Mogul (MM), SP 4203, SP Class MM-2. This locomotive was upgraded in 1936 and converted to simple emerging as an Articulated Mogul (AM) SP 4203, SP Class AM-2. In 1938 the locomotive was renumbered to SP 3903.
The disposition of this locomotive is, vacated and scrapped in 1946

At 4:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at MP 368, Challender, AZ, on the BNSF Railway's Seligman Subdivision was a 3+0 westbound intermodal. Power on this train was 6757, 4196 and 7998.
BNSF 6757 is an an ES44C4. Reportedly: It was built by GE in 2011 builder's number 60427.

SP Helper 4197

Southern Pacific (SP) AC-8 4197 in helper service. Notice the WW2 era light deflectors. No notes on this one. Location not currently known, perhaps Santa Margarita? This is WW2 era, sometime in 1942. Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Jack Darrough Collection. Since Bill Darrough died of cancer in 1942 this may be among his last train photos. Used with permission. 
Reportedly: SP 4197 was built in 1939 by Baldwin as a model AC-8, builders number 62285.
The disposition of this locomotive is, vacated in 1954 and scrapped in 1955.

The real WP 729 was an EMD GP9, WP Class RS62. Reportedly it was built in 1955, construction number 20700. It became UP 304 and was sold in 1985 to PNC.

Meet at Weed

A meet at Weed on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. WP F7 914-A was leading a train meeting SP AC-8 4197.
The real 914-A was an EMD F7A, WP Class D-239. It was built in 1950, builder's number 8964 and scrapped in 1975.
The real SP 4197 was a Baldwin Built 4-8-8-2, SP Class AC-8. It was built in 1939 and scrapped in 1955.
My HO model of 914-A is an Athearn Genesis model. SP 4197 is an Intermountain model owned by Wayne Cohen.

At 8:20 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, Dakota Missouri Valley and Western Railroad (DMVW) 5454, 6941, 5500 were approaching 136th Ave NE, Near Arnold, ND with a northbound train.
DMVW 5454 is an SD50F. Reportedly DMVW 5454 was built by the Diesel Division of General Motors of Canada, Ltd. as SD50F CN 5454 in 1987, serial number A4631.
