Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad (DGNO) 2505 is in Garland, TX on the DGNO on a sunny Sunday, April 7, 2024.
DGNO 2505 is a rebuilt EMD GP35-3. Reportedly: it was built in 1964 as SP 7457, SP Class DF-623, serial number 28884. In 1965 it became SP 6569, SP Class EF425-1. In 1979 it was rebuilt by MK becoming SP 6306, GP35R, SP Class EF425-K1. It was sold by SP in 1996. Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include: DMVW 6306 and AKMD 2505.

DART SLRV in Texas

Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) 174 is eastbound on the Blue Line heading towards Downtown Garland station on Sunday, April 7, 2024.
DART 174 is a Kinki Sharyo Super Light Rail Vehicle (SLRV). Reportedly: it was a two unit light rail vehicle manufactured by Kinki Sharyo, delivered in 1998 and operated by DART. It subsequently was modified into a three unit SLRV jointly by DART and Kinki Sharyo. The third section went between the end cars, with low floor boarding and spots for wheelchair users.

ATSF ALCo in Texas

Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum owned Ex-ATSF 2301 in Temple, TX on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.
ATSF 2301 is an ALCo HH600 Reportedly: it was built in 1937 by ALCo serial number 68803. It was retired in 1964. Evan Werkema wrote, "After being retired from active Santa Fe service in October 1964, 2301 was sold to Palo Duro Grain. By 1970, 2301 was working for Tulia Grain at Tulia, TX, located north of Plainview, TX on the ATSF line from Lubbock to Amarillo, TX". It's currently owned by and located at the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum in Temple Texas.

Dallas, Garland & Northeastern Railroad (DGNO) 3417 and 3416 are in Garland, TX on the DGNO on a sunny Sunday, April 7, 2024.
DGNO 3417 is an EMD/MK SD40M-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1966 as an SD45, ATSF 1827, serial number 32083. In 1970 it was renumbered to ATSF 5527. In 1983 ATSF rebuilt it into SD45u 5369. It was sold to MK becoming MKCX 5369, circa 1994. It was sold Helm leasing, then apparently sold a couple more times becoming SD40M-2 CEFX 3146 then DGNO 3417.

DGNO 3417 is an EMD SD40M-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1966 as an SD45, ATSF 1827, serial number 32083. In 1970 it was renumbered to ATSF 5527. In 1983 ATSF rebuilt it into SD45u 5369. It was sold to MK becoming MKCX 5369 circa 1994. It was sold Helm leasing apparently sold a couple more times becoming SD40M-2 CEFX 3146 before becoming DGNO 3417.

CZ Budd Coach in Texas

Former California Zephyr Coach Silver Pine on Sunday, April 14, 2024. It is on the Austin Steam Train Association's Bluebonnet Special.
Silver Pine (former DRGW 1121) is a Budd 48 seat coach. Reportedly: it was built in 1948 as a California Zephyr 16 Section Sleeper. In 1963-64 the cars of this class were rebuilt into coaches. The Silver Pine remained in service on the Rio Grande Zephyr until it too was discontinued in 1984. The Silver Pine was sold to a private owner and kept in storage until ASTA purchased the car in 2010. It was returned to service in 2011 as a first class coach car.

At 2:55 p.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011, Livonia, Avon and Lakeville (LAL) 425 and 428 pass the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum at Industry in Rush, NY.
October 6, 2011, was an awesome day chasing the LAL with Otto Vondrak.
LAL 425, the Brackett H. Clark, is an ALCo C425. Reportedly: it was built in 1965, builders number 3398-2, as New Haven 2557.
Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include PC 2457 and CR 5086.

My first wife, Candy Sloan, shot this photo of a friend on the Southern Pacific (SP) between Susuin and Dixon, CA on SP SD9 (SD9E) 4306 on Thursday, July 28, 1983.
SP 4306 EMD is an SD9 (SD9E), SP Class EF618E-1. Reportedly: it was built as in 1954 as SP 5340, SD9, SP Class DF-120, builder's number 19429. In 1965 it was renumbered SP 3801 SP Class EF618-1. This locomotive was upgraded in 1970 emerging as SP 4306 EMD SD9 (SD9E), SP Class EF618E-1.
The disposition of this locomotive is: Retired in 1995, Delivered to Progress Rail, Fresno, Calif., in 1996. It's nose was chopped and it became I&M Rail Link 610.

WP 707 in snow

Western Pacific (WP) 707 is in Portola, CA on a very cold Saturday, February 10, 1973. This photo was really a collaboration between myself, Paul Burmiester, his dad Bud and the driver of the approaching car who’s headlights illuminated the engine.
WP 707 is an EMD GP7, WP Class RS-62. Reportedly: it was built in 1952 by EMD as a model GP7, WP 703, WP Class RS-62, builder's number 17031.
The disposition of this locomotive is: assigned UP 108. Donated in 1987 to the Feather River Railroad Society in Portola, CA.

C415 set at City of Industry

No April fool's joke! SP 2407 leads a set of C-415s at the City of Industry, California, on April 1, 1973.
SP 2407 is an ALCo C-415, SP Class AS415-1. Reportedly: it was in Dec. 1966, builder's number 3458-9. This was the last C-415 to operate for SP, being used at times in 1978 as the Taylor "Shop Dinky." Sold April 1979 to Chrome Crankshaft. Sold in June 1979 to the Cowlitz and Cascade 702. Sold 1989 to Oregon Coast Line Express. Became Burlington Junction Railway 702, Burlington, IA. Later in Quincy, IL? Current disposition unknown, scrapped?

Rock Island Geep

Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CRIP) "Rock Island" GP7R, Paducah rebuild, 4491 is resting in Kansas City, KS on an unrecorded date in or around 1975. The photographer of this photo is likely Bob Black.
About this photo: In the 70s there was a group of photographers who met at Iron Horse Hobbies in Concord, CA. Three of us also shot 120 film. Larry Sprock, Bob Black and I often gave each other envelopes of 120 images. These were unmounted 120 transparencies. There was no name on the envelope this image was in, but I think the envelope this was in was photos by Bob Black.
CRIP 4491 is an EMD GP7R. Reportedly it was built in 1952 by EMD as a model GP7, builders number 15055, WAB 471.
Owners and reporting marks reportedly associated with this locomotive include PNCX, NW 3471, WAB 471, CNW 4153 and DBGX 4153.

October 6, 2011, was an awesome day chasing the LAL with Otto Vondrak.
LAL 428 (the Sergeant W. Wise) is an ALCo C425. Reportedly: it was built in 1966 by ALCo as a model C425, builders number 3461-01, SP&S 320.
Reporting marks and numbers said to be associated with this locomotive include Seminole Gulf Railroad 550, Bay Colony 2501, Shoreline Locomotives 2556, Mass. Central 4258, Arkansas & Missouri 4258, Kyle 4258, BN 4258, SP&S 320.
In 2024 it had an electrical fire and was deemed a total loss.

Black Widow Gator

Austin & Texas Central (ATCX) Black Widow heritage Alligator 442 is sitting in Cedar Park, TX, on Sunday, April 14, 2024, for an "unexpected restoration."
ATCX 442 is an ALCo RSD-15/DL600B. It was built in 1960 as ATSF 842, serial number 83578. It became ATSF 9842, then Squaw Creek Coal 9842, then Indiana Hi-Rail 442, then Wabash & Ohio 442, then Maumee & Western 442, and then ATCX 442.

Western Pacific (WP) 921-D is resting in the WP Power Pool in Oakland, CA on a Sunday afternoon in 1973.
WP 921-D is an EMD F7A. Reportedly: it was built in 1950, builders number 8979, WP class D-239. It was renumbered 921 in 1975. It was repaired and overhauled by MK in 1978 and donated in 1983 to the Feather River Railroad Society in Portola, CA.

Steam at Spring Garden

On Monday, May 13, 1991, Union Pacific (UP) 844 and 3985 are leading UP 9441 and passenger cars on the eastbound return trip after Railfair 1991. They are at Spring Garden, East of Quincy, CA and are headed towards Portola, CA.
Union Pacific 844 is a 4-8-4 steam locomotive owned by Union Pacific Railroad. Built by ALCo in 1944, it was the last steam locomotive delivered to Union Pacific and is the only steam locomotive never retired by a North American Class I railroad. Union Pacific 844 was one of 10 locomotives that were ordered by Union Pacific in 1944 and were designated as class FEF-3. It was built by ALCo, Serial Number 72791.

SP 4449 in Sparks

 
On November 24, 1975, SP 4449 in Freedom Train colors is laying over for the night in Sparks, Nevada. The American Freedom Train was in Reno/Sparks, Nevada, November 24-26, 1975. This was the train's 45th display city. It was displayed next to the Nugget Casino, 14th and Nugget Ave. From there it went to Sacramento.
SP 4449 is a Lima 4-8-4, former SP Class GS-4. Reportedly: it was built in May 1941 by Lima as a model GS-4, builders number 7817, SP 4449, SP Class GS4. In September 1956 the locomotive was pulled from Storage by SP and donated to the City of Portland.

On Friday, March 15, 2024, Amtrak (AMTK) 314 and 207 are leading Number 11 while Portland and Western Railroad (PNWR) 3546 is switching the yard in Albany, Oregon.
AMTK 314 is a Siemens ALC-42. Reportedly: it was built in 2021, serial number CHR 114.

Geeps in the southbay

Southern Pacific (SP) Geeps 3356 and 3515 sit in San Jose on an unrecorded date in 1972 waiting for work.
SP 3356 is an EMD GP9 (GP9E), SP Class EF418E-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1956 by EMD as a model GP9, builders number 21319, SP 5626, SP Class DF-607.
In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3459 SP Class EF418-6.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1972 emerging as SP 3356 EMD GP9 (GP9E) SP Class EF418E-2.
The disposition of this locomotive is: retired 1986, sold 1987, presumed scrapped.
