Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (CRIP) "Rock Island" GP7R, Paducah rebuild, 4491 is resting in Kansas City, KS on an unrecorded date in or around 1975. The photographer of this photo is likely Bob Black.
About this photo: In the 70s there was a group of photographers who met at Iron Horse Hobbies in Concord, CA. Three of us also shot 120 film. Larry Sprock, Bob Black and I often gave each other envelopes of 120 images. These were unmounted 120 transparencies. There was no name on the envelope this image was in, but I think the envelope this was in was photos by Bob Black.
CRIP 4491 is an EMD GP7R. According to Ed Cooper on April 21, 2024, "The above unit is Rock Island's first 4491. It was renumbered to 4478. There was a second 4491 that was a GP9." Reportedly the engine in this photo was built in 1952 by EMD as a model GP7, builders number 15055, WAB 471.
Owners and reporting marks reportedly associated with this locomotive include PNCX, NW 3471, WAB 471, CNW 4153 and DBGX 4153.
