ALCos Meet Lima

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, SP 2400 was with 2409 leading a local freight passing a train lead by SP 4445, a Lima 4-8-4, SP Class GS-4. This is at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad club in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA.
My C-415 models are both English (Bowser) models. The 4445 is my son's BLI model.
The real SP 2400 was an ALCo C-415, SP Class AS415-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1966 builder's number 3458-1. Sold in 1977 to Fundidora Monterrey a steel mill in Monterrey, Mexico with some other C-415s.

ACE meets ALCos

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, SP 2400 and 2409 were in the siding at "Pleasanton" being passed by an ACE train at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers (TCSME) model railroad club in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA.

UP Stack Train at Woodford

At 5:10 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, a northbound 2+2 UP stack train was at Woodford,  west of Tehachapi, CA. Power on this train was UP 7989, 7821 + 7181, 8138.
UP 7821 is a GE ES44AC. Reportedly: it is called an AC45CCTE by Union Pacific. It was built in 2008, serial number 58967.

BNSF at Bealville

On the afternoon of Thursday, August 6, 2026, a southbound 4+2 BNSF manifest was at Bealville, west of Tehachapi, CA. Power on this train was BNSF 5676, 5206, 7597, 5269 + 4110, 7830.
BNSF 5676 is a GE AC44CW. Reportedly: it was built in 2004, builders number 63246.

At 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, a northbound 4+2 BNSF container train crossed Tehachapi Creek between Woodford and Walong west of Tehachapi, CA. Power on this train was BNSF 7215, 4670, 6684, 5309 + 3855, 8798.
BNSF 7215 is a GE ES44DC. Reportedly, it was built 2009, serial number 59759.

At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2026, northbound 4+0 BNSF train was at Tunnel 2, west of Tehachapi, CA. It had BNSF 6149, 6235, UP 6531, BNSF 4686 for power.
BNSF 6149 is a ES44AC. Reportedly: BNSF 6149 was built by GE in 2007 as an ES44AC serial number 57646.

BNSF Caliente Northbound

At 6:30 p.m., on Friday, August 7, 2026, a northbound 4+0 BNSF train was at Caliente, west of Tehachapi, CA. It had BNSF 3870, 3933, 4117 and 7172 for power.
BNSF 3870 is a GE ET44C4. Reportedly, it was built in 2015, builders number 63284.

SP 5317 at Woodford

Southern Pacific (SP) 5317 was leading 8844 and other big EMDs on an SP westbound at Woodford, CA on Monday, October 21, 1974. 
SP 5317 was an EMD SD39, SP Class EF623-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1968 by EMD, builders number 34012. In 1994 it was renumbered 5298 to make room for D&RGW SD45s. 
The disposition of this locomotive was: retired in 1999 and scrapped in 2002.

SD39s at Mojave

Southern Pacific (SP) SD39 5308 and fellow SD39 5303 switched cars in the SP yard in Mojave, CA on Thursday, March 29, 1973. 

SP 5308 was an EMD SD39, SP Class EF623-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1968, builders number 34006.

The disposition of this locomotive was: retired in 1995 and sold in 1996 to Progress Rail. According to conflicting sources: Sold in 1999 to National Railway Equipment. Rebuilt to SD40-2M. Leased to UP, 4763. Renumbered to UP 2810 in 2001. Retired in 2002. Other Reporting marks and numbers reported as associated with this serial number may include CEFX 2810 and WAMX 4218.

Paul Young said, "Switching the West end of the yard. I see the old Union 76 gas station in the background. This is probably the Mojave shorts (LAMJY) setting out & switching it's train. Once that was completed, they would assemble the outbound (MJLAY) train and head East, provided they didn't die on the law. The LAMJY/MJLAY would often have work to do in Palmdale and/or Lancaster. Southern Pacific (SP) Cotton Belt (SSW) 9378 led a westbound through Rowen, CA, in the Tehachapi Mountains, on Friday, June 18, 1982.
SP SSW 9378 was an EMD SD45T-2, SP Class EF636C-9. Reportedly it was built in 1975, builder's number 74696-08. The disposition of this locomotive was, assigned UP 4919. Retired in 1999.

Southbound Manifest

At 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, east of the town of Tehachapi, CA, a southbound BNSF 3+1 manifest was leaving Monolith. Power on this train was BNSF 7524, 1071, 4634 + 6988.
BNSF 7524 is a GE ES44DC. Reportedly it was built in 2007, serial number 57915.
In August 2026 my great friend Ken Compton and I took a trip to the Tehachapi Mountains between Bakersfield and Mojave, California.

RS-27s on the CCMRC

Two Union Pacific (UP) ALCo RS-27s head towards Weed on a westbound train on Saturday, Sep. 5, 2026, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. These are Proto 2000 models.
The real UP 676 was an ALCo RS-27. Reportedly it was built in 1959 as ALCo demonstrator 640-3 builder's number 83557. UP sold it in 1971.
