Westbound at Rowen

Southern Pacific (SP) Cotton Belt (SSW) 9378 led a westbound through Rowen, CA, in the Tehachapi Mountains, on Friday, June 18, 1982.
SP SSW 9378 was an EMD SD45T-2, SP Class EF636C-9. Reportedly it was built in 1975, builder's number 74696-08. The disposition of this locomotive was, assigned UP 4919. Retired in 1999.

Southbound Manifest

At 9:55 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, east of the town of Tehachapi, CA, a southbound BNSF 3+1 manifest was leaving Monolith. Power on this train was BNSF 7524, 1071, 4634 + 6988.
BNSF 7524 is a GE ES44DC. Reportedly it was built in 2007, serial number 57915.
In August 2026 my great friend Ken Compton and I took a trip to the Tehachapi Mountains between Bakersfield and Mojave, California.

RS-27s on the CCMRC

Two Union Pacific (UP) ALCo RS-27s head towards Weed on a westbound train on Saturday, Sep. 5, 2026, at the California Central Model Railroad Club (CCMRC) in the historic Agnew depot in Santa Clara, CA. These are Proto 2000 models.
The real UP 676 was an ALCo RS-27. Reportedly it was built in 1959 as ALCo demonstrator 640-3 builder's number 83557. UP sold it in 1971.
