Trona Black Widow Baldwin

Trona (TRC) 53, former SP 5249, sitting next to GE 80 tonner 49, ex US Navy 6500297, in Trona, CA on Monday, October 21, 1975.
TRC 53 is a Baldwin AS616. Reportedly: it was built in 1951 by B-L-H as a model AS616, builders number 75139, SP 5249, the sole unit in SP Class DF-107.
The disposition of this locomotive is, sold by SP to Trona in 1960. In 1992 it was sold to Johnson Terminal. In 1995 it was sold to SMS Rail Service, becoming SMS 553.

SP 1204 in Tracy

Southern Pacific (SP) 1204, an ALCo S6 in Tracy, CA with SP GP9 3575 on an unrecorded date in 1975.
SP 1204 is an ALCo S6, SP Class AS409-1. Reportedly it was built by ALCo in 1955 as SP 1037, SP Class DS-9, construction number 80927. It became SP 1204, SP Class AS409-1 in the 1965 renumbering. It was sold to Chrome Crankshaft in 1980. According to Ken Rattenne "The unit became Berry Feed & Seed (in Keyes, CA) then AL Gilbert 1204. The unit was remote controlled and in 2001 or 2002 there was a serious mishap and the unit was sold for scrap in late 2002."

SP 1202 is an ALCo S6, SP Class AS409-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1955 as SP 1035, SP Class DS-9. It became SP 1202, SP Class AS409-1 in the 1965 renumbering. It was retired in 1978 and Chrome Crankshaft bought it and used it as a lease unit. It became Chicago, Madison & Northern Railway 1202, CF industries 001 and RLCX 896. Current status not known. A crud in Santa Clara

In a photo taken circa 1981, Southern Pacific (SP) 2598 is in Santa Clara, CA.
SP 2598 is an EMD SW1500, SP Class ES415-4. Reportedly: it was built in 1971, serial number 4608-8. These locomotives were called "cruds" mainly because they were so prolific. SP likely bought so many of them because they were such fine locomotives. Four plus decades later, many of these are still working for a living.

BN 9732 is an EMD F3A. Reportedly: it was built in 1947, builders number 4334, as GN 260A. It became GN 366A. After the merger it became BN 9732 then it lasted into the early 80s as BN 706
