Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in The Funnel a.k.a the BNSF Spokane Subdivision, a 3+1 eastbound BNSF empty coal train crossed Lake Pend Oreille, approaching Sandpoint, Idaho. It had 7859, 4683, 5098 + 6420 for power.
BNSF 7859 is an ES44DC. Reportedly: it was built in 2010, serial number 60121.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in The Funnel a.k.a the BNSF Spokane Subdivision, a 2+1 eastbound BNSF no grain train was in Sagel, Idaho. It had 7825, 4397 + 6742 for power.
BNSF 7825 is an ES44DC. Reportedly: it was built in 2010, serial number 60087.

HO Passenger Train at Niles

On Friday, September 26, 2025, my HO SSW GP40 7602 assisted SP PA-2 6044 leading a passenger train at the Tri-City Society of Model Engineers model railroad in the historic Niles depot in Fremont, CA. These are both Rapido Models.
The real SSW 7602 was an EMD GP40, SP Class EF430C-1. Reportedly it was built in 1966, serial number 31485. It was upgraded in 1982 becoming 7961, SP Class EF430CR-1. It became UP 1458.

C636 working in Stockton

The last C636 to survive, Delta Bulk Terminal (DBT) 1001 was working in the Port of Stockton in Stockton, CA on Thursday, December 23, 1982.
DBT 1001 was an ALCo C636. Reportedly it was built in 1968, builders number 3499-13, PC 6342. It became CR 6792. Later it was sold to DBT in Stockton, CA, becoming DBT 1001 before going to Delaware-Lakawana Railroad (DL) as the 3642.

BNSF 3826 is a GE ET44C4. Reportedly: It was built in 2016 builder's number 64077.

At 11:10 a.m., on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in The Funnel a.k.a the BNSF Spokane Subdivision, along Bottle Bay Road, North of Sagel, Idaho, an eastbound, 2+1, empty ethanol train was about to cross Lake Pend Oreille. Power on this train was 8481, 7909 + 4089.
BNSF 8481 is is an EMD SD70ACe. Reportedly: it was built in 2014 serial number 20136925-162.
BNSF 4089 is a GE C44-9W. Reportedly: It was built in 2003 builder's number 54257.

ATSF Cab Hop

ATSF 8752 was leading a mix of EMD and GEs on a westbound cab hop at Walong, CA, on Saturday, June 19, 1982. ATSF 8752 was a GE U36C. Reportedly it was built in 1974 builders number 39702. It was repainted to SPSF 8752 then repainted back to ATSF paint before retirement in September 1992.

This was shot with a Speed Graphic 4x5 on Ektachrome 64 film at 1/200 (leaf shutter) at f8. The lens is a 135mm Optar.

ATSF Eastbound at Woodford

On Saturday, June 19, 1982, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) C30-7 8150 and SD45-2 5635 led an eastbound (southbound) at Woodford, CA.
ATSF 8150 was a C30-7. Reportedly it was built in 1981, builder's number 43577, repainted to SPSF 8150 returned to GE Dec 1989 for GECX, to BN lease December 1991, became BNSF 5193, retired.

On Friday, June 18, 1982. Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 3821 led 5938, 4630, an SD40-2, 8050 and another C30-7 westbound at Ilmon, CA. This consist is GP50, F45, SD26, SD40-2 and two C30-7s, only Santa Fe.
ATSF 3821 was an EMD GP50. Reportedly it was built in 1981, builders number 806006-6. It became BNSF 3174.

ATSF 3817 was an EMD GP50. It was reportedly built in 1981 by EMD as a model GP50, builders number 806006-4. It became BNSF 3170.
ATSF 3635 was an EMD SD45-2.

ATSF 5697 in Barstow

Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 5697 was at the engine house in Barstow, CA on Sunday, October 20, 1974.
ATSF 5697 was an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1973, serial number 72642-11. In 1986 it was rebuilt to SPSF SD45-2u 7227. It was renumbered and repainted to yellow bonnet ATSF 5827 in 1991. It was renumbered BNSF 6477 in 1998 and subsequently renumbered to GN 6477.
On March 15, 2024, Bob Finan said: "Not your average SD45-2. A member of the 59:18 geared, 90 m.p.h. geared, and assigned to the prestigious power pool for Trains 198/891 - the westbound and eastbound “Super C’s” - the hottest train on the railroad."

SP GP30 5016 in Los Angeles, CA

On Tuesday, October 22, 1974, Southern Pacific (SP) GP30 5016 was sitting in the power pool at Taylor Yard in Los Angeles, CA. 
SP 5016 was an EMD GP30, SP Class EF423-1. Reportedly: it was built in 1963, builders number 28188, SP 7406, SP Class DF-621. In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 5016.
The reported disposition of this locomotive is, retired in 1986 and sold in 1987, presumed scrapped.

SP 3910 on the OC&E

Southern Pacific (SP) SD9 3910 and 3942 were sitting in Klamath Falls, Oregon on Friday, July 20, 1973. These units were being used by the OC&E then. Perhaps they were waiting to go out on the “Midnight Logger.”
SP 3910 was an EMD SD9, SP Class EF618-3. Reportedly: it was built in 1955, builders number 20210, as SP 5432, SP Class DF-122. In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 3910.
Reportedly: it was upgraded in 1976 emerging as SP SD9E 4418 SP Class EF618E-1.
The reported disposition of this locomotive was, SP 4418 retired in 1995. Sold in 1996 to Progress Rail. Went to Nevada Northern. Became BHP-Nevada 205. Current status not known, presumed scrapped.
