Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 5697 was at the engine house in Barstow, CA on Sunday, October 20, 1974.
ATSF 5697 was an EMD SD45-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1973, serial number 72642-11. In 1986 it was rebuilt to SPSF SD45-2u 7227. It was renumbered and repainted to yellow bonnet ATSF 5827 in 1991. It was renumbered BNSF 6477 in 1998 and subsequently renumbered to GN 6477.
On March 15, 2024, Bob Finan said: "Not your average SD45-2. A member of the 59:18 geared, 90 m.p.h. geared, and assigned to the prestigious power pool for Trains 198/891 - the westbound and eastbound “Super C’s” - the hottest train on the railroad."
