Two Kodachrome C30-7s lead by ATSF 8075 are sole power on a westbound, captured at the Santa Fe's Mormon Yard in Stockton, CA on Monday, March 20, 1989. The train is crossing the former WP, approaching Stockton Tower. ATSF 8075 is a GE C30-7. Reportedly it was built in 1979, serial number 42386.

On Monday, October 28, 2024, Caltrain, Joint Powers Board (JPBX) 920 is on Track 7 at the San José (CA) Diridon station. Its train is 814, the first train of the day going south to Gilroy.
JPBX 920 "Morgan Hill" is an MPI F40PH-2C. Reportedly: It has serial number 0498-1. MPI built it for Caltrain in 1998.

Semaphores Going Away

On an unrecorded date, circa 1981, Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) 8024 is in Port Chicago, CA. At the time the ATSF's upper quadrant semaphores were being replaced with target signals.
ATSF 8024 is a GE C30-7. Reportedly: it was built in 1978 builders number 41691. It was retired in 1992.

SP 4449 without helpers

On Saturday, April 25, 1981, City of Portland owned, former Southern Pacific (SP) GS4 4449 went from Portland, OR, to Klamath Falls, OR, as part of its journey to Railfair 1981, the Grand Opening of the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA. This appears to be shot before the steam engine picked up helpers in Oakridge. I lost my notes from that trip. Exact location unknown. Railbaron, on Trainorders, said, "approaching Hampton, OR (about 3/4 mile north / SP RR east of it). It is along Lookout Reservoir."

SP 9338, an SD45T-2, traveled with it from Oakridge to Klamath Falls. This is at Milepost 529 at Crescent Lake, OR.

SP 9338, an SD45T-2, traveled with it from Oakridge to Klamath Falls. I lost my notes from that trip. Location of this photo is unknown for sure, perhaps between Braymill and Chiloquin, OR.

On Saturday, April 25, 1981, City of Portland owned, former Southern Pacific (SP) GS4 4449 went from Portland, OR, to Klamath Falls, OR, as part of its journey to Railfair 1981, the Grand Opening of the California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento, CA. SP 9338, an SD45T-2, traveled with it from Oakridge to Klamath Falls. I lost my notes from that trip. According to Colin Smith, "this is most definitely the Chemult, OR signal bridge, now known under UP as 'CP VP502 Chemult'."

SP SDP45 3208 traveled with 4449 from Klamath Falls to Tehema. I lost my notes from that trip. On the Shasta Division, likely north of the tunnel at Dorris, CA.

OC&E Baldwins at Moyina, OR

On an unrecorded date, likely Friday, April 24, 1981, an Oregon California & Eastern Railroad (OCE) train led by OCE 7909 heads east. Greg Brown said, "this is an eastbound train at Moyina siding in Pine Flat. The train is around 15 miles from Klamath Falls."
OCE 7909 is a Baldwin RS-12. Reportedly it was built in 1952 as Seaboard Air Line 1468, builder's number 75477. It became Seaboard Coast Line 209 then to OC&E in 1979. It was sold to Escanaba & Lake Superior 209 in 1984.
OCE 7908 is a Baldwin RS-12. Reportedly it was built in 1952 as Seaboard Air Line 1466, builder's number 75475. It became Seaboard Coast Line 207 then to OC&E in 1979. It was sold to Escanaba & Lake Superior 207 in 1984.

According to Greg Brown, "this is shot from the grade crossing at Hope Street." About the going away shot he said, "looking east at the Hope Street crossing. The stop sign in the distance is at Wiard Street."

1 - On a sunny Wednesday, June 19, 2013, Feather River Railroad Society (FRRX), Western Pacific Railroad Museum's (WPRM) former Southern Pacific (SP) 4450 "Huff" is sitting awaiting its fate at the WPRM in Portola, CA.

2 - On an unrecorded date in November 1972, SP Boiler Equipped SD9 3822 is waiting for a call to snow fighting service over Donner Pass in Roseville, CA.

SP 4450 was an EMD SD9E, SP class EF618E-2. Reportedly: it was built in 1954 as SD9 SP 5363, SP Class DF-120, builders number 19452. In 1965 it became SP 3822 SP Class EF618-1. It was rebuilt to SP 4450 in 1974. It was scrapped by FRRX at WPRM in 2013.

SD&AE 102 leading extra 2354, Jacumba, CA

SD&AE 102 at Jacumba, CA. Evan Werkema said, "According to information compiled by Scott Inman, this would be the Railroad Boosters' "Carriso Gorge" excursion of October 15, 1939."
SD&AE 102, is an ALCo, SP Class C-31 2-8-0. Reportedly built in 1914 Schenectady Locomotive Works (ALCO), builder's number 54973. Acquired from SP in 1919, scrapped in 1953.
Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Darrough Brothers (Bill and Jack) Collection. Since negatives were extensively traded it's possible Bill was not the photographer. Photos from this collection have been shared with permission from Jack Darrough, obtained before he died.

WP 254, is a Baldwin, 251 Class, Symbol M-137, 2-8-8-2. Reportedly it was built in 1931 and retired in 1952.
