Ex-SP On Tehachapi

On a hot Friday, August 7, 2026, at 11:30 a.m., a former SP unit led a southbound 3+0 Union Pacific (UP) train that was about to enter Tunnel 2, south of Caliente, CA. The power was UP 6409, 9077, 8411.
UP 6409 is a GE/Wabtec C44ACM. Reportedly: it was built in 1995 as an AC44CW, SP 363, SP Class GF644L-2, serial number 48779.
