Southern Pacific (SP) 1210 is on the streets of LA. Location: Alameda Street, near Union Station. The Hollywood Freeway (the 101) is on the left of this photo. Photo was taken on Tuesday, October 22, 1974. This was shot through the windshield of my 1969 Chevy Nova.
SP 1210 is an ALCo S6, SP Class AS409-1. Reportedly: it was built by ALCo in 1955 as SP 1043, SP Class DS-9, builder's number 81293. It became SP 1210, SP Class AS409-1 in the 1965 renumbering. It was retired in 1980 and became National Metal and Steel 518 in LA Harbor. In 1986 it went to Foster Farms.
