WP 2-8-0 62 on the turntable at Portola, CA. Date of photo unknown, Circa 1940? Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Darrough Collection. Since negatives were extensively traded it's possible Bill was not the photographer. Photos from this collection have been shared with permission from Jack Darrough, obtained before he died.
WP 2-8-0 62 is Class 21, Symbol C-43 built by ALCo in 1909 reportedly last used in 1949 retired in 1950.

On Monday, May 12, 1986, Southern Pacific (SP) 1531 is with 1526 in Roseville, CA. This from a 4x5 negative taken with a Speed Graphic.
SP 1531 is an EMD SD7 (SD7R), SP Class ES615R-1. Reportedly: it built in 1953 by EMD as a model SD7, builders number 17151, SP 5286, SP Class DF-114. In 1965 it was renumbered to SP 2707 and reclassified as a switcher SP Class ES615-1. Later, it was renumbered to SP 1407.
This locomotive was upgraded in 1980 emerging as an "SD7R" SP 1531 SP Class ES615R-1.
The disposition of this locomotive is, sold in 1995. Scrapped in 1998.

Relatively rare bought new GP40 Cotton Belt (SSW) 7605. Notice in Roseville, CA, in August 1977 it has two types of radiator fans!
SSW 7605 is an EMD GP40, SP Class EF430C-1. Reportedly it was built in 1966, builders number 31488. This locomotive was upgraded in 1982 emerging as SP 7965 a model GP40R, SP Class EF430CR-1. The disposition of this locomotive is, classed by UP as a GP40-2 assigned Union Pacific number 1460, repainted in 2005. Still in service?
