My dad, Southern Pacific (SP) Western Division Engineer Lloyd D. Sloan, posed at the throttle of SP 1206 at Port Chicago, CA, on an unknown date in August, 1972. I was 16 when I took this photo on Wards Film. It had color shifted terribly and I thought the image was lost. Thank You Photoshop!
SP 1206 is an ALCo S6 SP Class AS409-1. Reportedly it was built in 1955, builders number 80929, as SP 1039, Class DS-9. It was renumbered 1206, Class AS409-1, in 1966. After retirement it was sold to City of Grand Island, Platte Generating Station 1 and sold as AGP Grain Cooperative 1.
