SP ALCo Century and Me

Click Photo To Enlarge

Me on an Southern Pacific (SP) ALCo Century, the 7109. This is a scan off a slide my father took in Roseville, CA. This photo was likely taken circa the Spring of 1970. The big ALCos were likely on their way to the BN who leased them that year. My dad was an SP locomotive engineer, so we went anywhere we wanted in Roseville, including inside the shops.
SP 7109 was an Alco C628, SP Class AF628-2. Reportedly, it was built in 1965 as SP 4850, SP Class DF-504. In the 1965 renumbering it became SP 7109. In 1974 it was downgraded to switcher status and became 3121, SP Class AS628-1. It was sold for scrap in 1980.
