This was shot at Summit on Cajon Pass on a trip in the early 80's (likely 1982) to Eagle Mountain. It is a pure luck shot of a UP Sulzer on the point of a train at Summit. The man getting off is a (surprise) mechanic.
UP 60 was an EMD SD45, UP Designation EMD/Morrison Knudsen SD45M. Reportedly, it was built in 1968 by EMD as UP 3634 an SD45, builders number 33443, from UP series 3600-3649. It was renumbered UP 34 in 1978. It was rebuilt in 1980, equipped with a Sulzer 16ASV25R-30 engine and 62:15 gear ratio. Union Pacific called these units SD45Ms. Morrison Knudsen used TE83-6S. It was retired in 1983.
